Profile About Me Help us get to the House of Swing Project by Susan Stocker Bookmark or Share This Post 3 64 Share 1 Digg 8 Email 78 Share Share the Link http://www.microgiving.com/profile/dillardjazz About this Project The Dillard Center for the Arts Jazz Ensemble, a performance oriented big band composed of talented student musicians, needs your help to attend the super bowl of all high school jazz band competitions, Essentially Ellington. EE is part of the Jazz at Lincoln Center program, headed by Wynton Marsalis in New York City. Last year, DCA Jazz qualified for the first time and placed 2nd nationally. This year we've been invited back and are determined to come home with a 1st Place. But it's not just about winning for our group of very dedicated students. We will also get hands-on help and make one-on-one contact with members of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, who are world class musicians. DCA Jazz is part of the Performing Arts magnet program at Dillard High School in Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. and attracts talented students from all over Broward County. Magnet programs typically exist at schools which are under-enrolled, and under-funded. As talented as our students are, many simply cannot afford the cost of the four-day trip to NYC. Your donation will help our students with all their travel expenses. As a result of the exposure that individual students received at the event last year, many have received terrific opportunities, such as scholarship offers for summer music camps and tuition offers from music schools, all of which will help them to pursue their dreams in music.
