(Trumpet player) Musician for hire...!

I thought that a blog was a great idea to vent my ideas and talk aboujt pertinent information, and it is. It also is a great way to self advertise. So, right now I am about to do a shameless plug for myself.

My name is Jarritt Sheel and I am a musician, trumpet player to be exact, that is for hire. I have my resume posted and you can check it out and see if my credentials fit your requirements. I have a hunger for music and I love to play just about everything from jazz to zedyco, Funk to Flamenco, hip-hop to pop. So, just about anything a trumpet can fit into. I love to play and I am a member of the AFM local 389 out of Orlando, FL. I am a graduate of Florida A&M University with a B.S. in Music. This summer I will begin a two year program of graduate study in Jazz Studies/ Musicology at Northern Illinois University.

Too pooped to play

I have been exhausted in my life, tired, and hungover, but none I think beat this thing I have going for myself right now. I have been taking mulit-vitamins, energy supplements, and to my surprise I am still too pooped to play my horn in the evening.

See, I am a substitute teacher during the day and primarily a musician all the time. I think the great majority of the sleepiness is derived from my mental situation. These kids are running me ragged. Don't get me wrong, I love them, but it takes alot to occupy someone's time when the original teacher has not done a thorough job with lesson plans and such. People tell me that I'm an entertainer, but not that kind. I don't do one man shows......well not for this age group....LOL!

Suffice to say I need a vacation and spring break can not come fast enough for me this year. My birthday is that week and you know....I'm chilling and relaxing for my big 30!

Chris Botti

Chris Botti, is a good trumpet player and musician. I just saw this PBS special he did this year and let me tell you that the hype is real. Now, ...there....always seems to be a but or now after making comments about this guy. I feel he is bona fide...a real champ. The explanations that people have been making for the apparent popularity of this musician are ridiculous to say the least.

This is a real musician that connects with his audience like no one else right now. It doesn't hurt that he is a good looking white guy or that he teams up with stellar pop musicians and artist. I can't deny the authenticity of the duet betweeen Chris and Jill Scott during "Good Morning .." There had to be chemistry going between them and that is not a commonplace thing these days. He seems to have his head on straight and knows what he wants from the music.

So, why are people giving him such shit. Well, ....jealousy for the most part. When a musician finds the spot light and nails a cue like this guy has, people notice. When people ,...large numbers of a huge audience(sells) notice, then the spotlight time disappears for others. I agree that some of his music I don't like, but I also don't like all of Sonny Rollins tunes or even Wynton's albums...there are some tune selections that I think they could have left out. Or maybe they could be more entertaining for the masses. Even the great artist ; painters, singers, musicians, writers throughout the ages putt in a little dash of entertainment here and there. OUR goal, well as I see it, is to entertain and educate the masses. It can't just be done through rhythm changes and the blues. I don't always listen to music like that. I have to pull things from all music and I think this guy has figured some, if not all of the urgency of using the spotlight for good. Everytime I see him in front of a camera I hear him pubbing school music, music education, or playing music. Above all playing his horn very well!

Chris Botti, is a real musician. This can not be denied and he may one day be likened to other famous musicians, but he like I is trying to find his own place in the sunn. Peace!

Chicago..!!!!

I just remembered my password for this blogg. I feel so bad that I have missed out on commenting about so many things as of late. I feel like my opinion so be heard and that the public need sto know the truth.....LOL! Right, ....like I'm some sort of authority on the world. I do however know that I had a great time in CHICAGO when I went in February! Chicago was the bomb and I really enjoyed thier food, and suffice to say I gotta graduate gig out of my visit.

During my visit I went to NIU- Northern Illinois University and took a graduate audition with Mr. Art Davis and Mr. Ron Carter. They both showed me mad love and I hope they know that I appreciate all of the help they are giving me. I was digging the scene and hopefully impressed enough people. I want to go there to the small town of Dekalb, IL in the middle of that corn field and learn all I can about jazz and music on a whole. I will be studying Musicology/jazz studies, which everyone has asked me several times what it is several times; Musicology is defined as "the study of music as a branch of knowledge or field of research as distinct from composition or performance."

While in Illinois I got a chance and some free time ...,I planned it though, to go into the heart of the city, belly of the beast, and hangout. I had a great time and I really didn't expect it. I have travelled some but not enough to expect CHICAGO to be so clean and the people so hospitable. I love the studiousness of the NIU campus, but I loved the even more the urban/cosmopolitan aire of the city. I went out with new found friends and lived it up for two days. I had some pictures of this place called LEM'S that had a sausage dog that was off the chain. They called it a Hot-Link,... I think. LOL! It was hot all right and spicy, but ...really good.

I hope you enjoyed this and hit my blogg up sometime. Holler at you sometime soon. Peace!
